I am concerned for the safety of shop dogs in a wood shop environment, such as our team’s shop. With the issue of having wood shavings and small pieces, would the dog eat them? Would it be too loud for them? We’re talking about getting one, however we worry of the safety of said animal.
I would not keep a dog in crowded shop environment. Maybe a cat. But then I don’t like cats.
Noise and the potential for an animal to ingest any number of toxic item that are in a shop are reasons for me to never let my dog into a shop. When my dog does manage to get into my father’s wood shop he is very quickly removed, although he won’t approach it when we are running the planer, jointer or table saw because of the noise.
If you add the safety concerns about having a dog underfoot roaming the shop you add additional safety issues. To me a shop dog should stay in an office area away from any operational equipment where they can be kept safe and not be the cause of hazards.
