A request for SOAP

To the people of SOAP, and the SOAP alliance, I want to say that your site was very helpful, and that you did an excellent job this year for all FIRST teams. To that I want to congratulate you on all of your hard work digitizing those videos.

I have a couple of request for possibly next year:

  1. Could you include a “Fast Start” header on your QuickTime movies so we can see them as they are downloading, instead of waiting for the whole movie to download than be able to watch it.

  2. Could it be in MPEG-4 or .mp4 with the AAC codec. At 320x240 video, with sound, I can get a whole match (about 2 minutes 30 seconds) in about 8 megabytes with very good video and audio.

  3. Could the filename include the team numbers and the match.

Remember these are just suggestions, what your team does is up to you.

Keep up the good work!

Obviously I can’t speak for Kenny, but I believe they are looking for a better video format to store the matches in. They obviously want more compression to decrease the file size and I think they’re looking for a format that allows you to view the movie as it’s downloading. If I remember, I’ll let him know about this post.

Mike

I like what they are doing.
BUT
I do have a suggestion.
Get rid of the bubbles on the main page.
They make me nutso.

Wetzel

Well, more then normal nutso.

We would like to go back and hint the movies so that they stream better, but don’t have the energy to do that at this time.

Yes. Notice how the epcot awards videos are in MPEG4 (.asf files). 2:00 matches are about 8MB. Though we could get it down to 4MB we’d rather have a little extra quality. See www.soap108.com/2002/events/cmp/movies

  3. Could the filename include the team numbers and the match.
We’re going to see if at least the event name and match number can be superimposed onto the video feed so that replay and archiving gets a whole lot easier. If that can be done team numbers would be just as easy.

Thanks,
