A Somewhat Random Question About Steamworks Gameplay

I know that in Rapid React some teams would have their human player on the opposite side of the field signal to them about things (mostly cargo location I think) hidden by the hub. Was any similar sort of strategy used in Steamworks?

My team did for sure. Our human player wore a bright white glove (like Michael Jackson) that could be easily seen across the field

Yes. Airship pilots in particular, but far-side HPs as well.

I should also add that this has been a thing since 2008: far-side HP, signalling devices are allowed and used. (2009, 2011?, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2022)

Yea HP in the airship was pretty useful to count down how many gears were left to score. Some teams wouldn’t spin the gears til end game to hide whether or not they had the ranking point or if they achieved the bonus points in playoffs so the opposing alliance never really knew the score.

The line of sight was pretty rough that year to find loose gears --we’d entirely miss that were would be a gear or two laying against the driver station. Hand signals were super helpful.

I seem to recall that the majority of the signalling done by the human players was to direct the robot to get lined up to the slot in the loading station.

We were counting gears leaving the station with the HP not in the airship to keep count of gears in the opposing teams airship.

696 did it to great success in 2017. Human player used a red/green pool noodle to signal the driver that the robot was in position to receive a gear from the loading station, and to signal that the robot had successfully acquired the gear from the loading station.

Yes! Our team actually had little signs for the coach to hold up for our human player to tell them what we wanted next
