A warning about updating the NI software

I’m not sure if this is a widespread issue or not, but I figured it might be useful to share with you all. My team didn’t go to the NI workshop at the kickoff, but the guy there gave us a USB drive with updates for LabView and the other software on the little 2GO PCs that came with our kits. I’m guessing they didn’t have these problems in the workshops, so this will probably be more helpful to anyone having problems that didn’t get to go to a kickoff.
After installing the updates using the serial number on the back of the sleeve containing the software CDs included with the kits, the activation keys from National Instruments (via http://www.ni.com/activate) didn’t work. According to http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/lang/en/id/1534 and http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprograms/frc/content.aspx?id=10934&terms=licensing, none of the serial numbers will work until January 15th and until then you have to use the serial number “L13R00000” to update and activate the software.
After activating and rebooting, however, the computer automatically logged on to the “Driver” account rather than showing the user login screen. When it attempted to automatically start the Driver Station program, a window appeared saying that it couldn’t find “nicyapi.dll”. This caused multiple “Resource not found” errors that resulted in the Driver Station not launching correctly (becoming almost completely non-functional) and left me with no administrative abilities in Windows. The solution to this was to right-click in the dialog box that pops up asking for the location of nicyacpi.dll and clicking “Search”, which somehow gave Explorer a little kick-start and desktop icons, the taskbar, etc appeared. From there I set a password for both the Driver and Developer accounts to hopefully keep the computer from automatically logging in (this isn’t required), and then used Add/Remove Programs to uninstall JUST the Driver Station program. After that, re-installing it using the updates from the USB drive (I believe they’re also available on the NI website) fixed the DLL error and now the Driver Station program starts up correctly upon login. However, the computer still automatically logs into the “Driver” user, and the only way I’ve managed to get around that is to hold the Shift key while Windows is booting up, which forces it to bring up the login screen.
I’m not sure what caused this, and I’ve tried using System Restore but the earliest restore point is from when the updates installed, so that wasn’t much help. The only other post I’ve found about this happening is http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79823, just for the record.
