Here is the A-Z guide for the championships for competing teams. Something I noticed was that the Media and Technology Innovation Award was not listed under awards for some reason.
Pit Stations: Each team has approximately the same Pit space. Extending beyond your Pit space is not allowed. Aisles must be clear for crate movement, safety, and queuing reasons, so we suggest that team members watch the matches and cheer on the teams instead of overflowing the pit stations into the aisles. There is a ten foot (10) height limit. Structures, signage, or banners cannot be higher than ten feet above the floor. Do not build any structure that supports people or stores items above the work area/pit space. If the height exceeds ten feet, you will be asked to take it down. No advance placement requests are available. **Positioning is random. **No requests for displays, additional tables, Pit locations, division assignments, meeting rooms, or additional space will be considered.
I really hope that pit positioning is not random. I am fine with division assignments being made randomly but I really hope for the sake of inspectors and judges that pits are in some orderly fashion like they were in the past.
IIRC, the Media and Technology Innovation Award is an award that is not announced with the awards judged by the championship judging team, but (I think) it is announced by Comcast’s people. I could be wrong, though.
As a member of the initiated, random numbering makes it impossible to find people. But on the plus side, looks like I’ll get my yearly exercise in when visiting all of the teams I want to. :]
Check-in at Pit Administration:
Wednesday, 1:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Thursday, 7:00 am - 8:30 am
Teams’ Main and/or Alternate Contacts must check-in at Pit Administration.
Neither our Main or Alternate contacts is able to make the trip with us. Suggestions on how to deal with this? Should we temporarily change the Alternate Contact to one of the mentors traveling with us?
You should email [email protected] to arrange how to handle this, but I would think you would want to change one of your lead mentors in TIMS to another mentor… Remember that your lead mentors need to have their YPP completed also.
I have word from a reliable source that pits will be sorted by division, then by number, as it’s been done every year. No need to worry about random pit ordering.
There will most likely be an order. The statement is probably made to stress the fact that a team cannot be sure exactly where they will be placed with their pit.
From the latest FIRST email blast:
New! Pit Addresses: In an effort to make it easier to locate team Pit locations, we will be assigning teams Pit “addresses” this year. Teams will be assigned a letter and number address code, and Pit maps will be arranged in a grid format to make it easier to find team Pit locations. All Pits are located on “streets” A through V with Pits 1-40 on each “street”. An example Pit address would be “L26”, which happens to be located within the Galileo Subdivision. We still plan to maintain ascending team number order in the Pits as best we can. Team Pit addresses (once released) will be accessible in printed Championship materials and the FIRST Championship App, which can be downloaded here: FIRST Championship | For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology
Same for us, they told us that any team mentor will do, you will not need your Main or Alternate.
