Hi, we’re a really rookie team and were hoping someone could give us more insight into the rule about getting points for picking up your alliance partner. Please.

: Hi, we’re a really rookie team and were hoping someone could give us more insight into the rule about getting points for picking up your alliance partner. Please.

If you look at ‘The Game’ on page 3, it stated that ‘A robot being held by its alliance partner off the carpeted playing field surface is worth an additional 10 points. See rule DQ12’

‘DQ12: Lifting of an opponents robot off the carpeted floor is a disqualifying offense. Robots are only allowed to pickup their ALLIANCE PARTNER for scoring purposes.’

And also see SC1. (3.)’…A robot is considered ‘hanging’ if it is not tourching the ramp or the playing field surface… see figure 1.3 for Robot Hanging’

So as long as your alliance robot is not touching the playing field or the ramp because you lift it up or it hang itself on the bar, it will receive 10 points. Not touching means no contact, so even the space between the robot and the group/ramp is paper thin, the robot will receive points. Only thing is that the robot can only be hanging on the bar or lift up by another robot, not both.

The final ruling is still up to the judges, so try not to get TOO close to the playing field/ramp.
