Does anyone know if you can add the FIRST library for LabVIEW to an existing copy of LabVIEW? My school laptop came with it and I would like to be able to use it for FIRST programming but there are no default library VI’s that I can use with the FIRST configuration. Anyone know how to handle this?
You’ll need to give us some version information of the already-installed Labview to give you any sort of “informed” advice.
You could check the NI website for advice also. They have monitored forums that get questions answered pretty quickly.
You could install the 2010 Labview (version 8.6) that comes with your kit, and if your already-installed Labview is less than 8.6, then it’ll just install right next to it.
I’ve got 8.5 and 8.6 on my laptop right now without any problems. (except when I accidently double-click the wrong desktop icon)
I have multiple version of LabVIEW on my machine, but I was told the FIRST version of LabVIEW doesn’t play nice with regular LabVIEW.
I installed the FIRST version on a virtual PC

What Virtual PC is another PC on your machine. You basically have 2 computers. I use this whenever I need to install software that I need a clean install for or I am concerned it will interfere with my main setup.
Well I have 8.6 currently on my laptop. I’m not in the same town as my team right now. I’m working more as a mentor from affar this year so getting the install from them isn’t really possible. I tried just searching the NI website but couldn’t find something that looked like what I need. I’ll try their forum.
We at NI are not posting the FRC 2010 complete installler - only updates. You should probably contact FIRST - they may be able to send you an extra set of DVDs for initial installation. Then don’t forget to run the update afterward.
Thanks for the help. I’ll try what you suggested and hopefully I can get something to work.
