Hello Chief Delphi!
I’m a newbie mentor for a local grade 5/6 school FLL team, and I’d like to know how other teams build their students’ skills, especially for the robot game. Last year, the kids did pretty well in the Project area, but I don’t know how to teach the kids about building an effective FLL robot. (Also, I’m don’t have much knowledge on the subject either!) They know basic stuff like how to drive motors. We taught them how to read the port values so they could do the most basic obstacles on the board. I’m really proud of what they achieved last year, don’t get me wrong! I just want to improve. I know that we don’t really have a structure for learning this stuff as well…
I’ve tried looking online for how other teams do this stuff, but FLL teams don’t seem to have websites or resources about their teams and how they do stuff (which FRC teams have, which is the effect of Chairman’s and outreach, I think). There’s stuff on teaching EV3 programming (which I’m definitely looking at), but not really on lego robot building or any FLL-specific stuff.
We meet once a week for an hour or so during school terms. If you could share how your team builds skills, or offer any advice, or point me towards any resources that would be awesome!! :^))
Sorry if this is a double post, I tried posting a couple of days ago but I don’t think it went up…
