If you had to choose and design a robot that only makes algae or coral, what would you choose?
Coral
You would so easily rely on another group to take out the algae?
Removing algae isn’t all that difficult–a stick could probably do it.
There’s no requirement to score them.
Algae! It gets coopertition and six points! Plus it’s easier to knock something down than align something.
coral 100%. algae has no use ranking points wise (other than removing it and scoring two for coopertition)
Algae are easier to manipulate but you have limited algae per match, on the other hand there are more corals in the field than algae so in theory you can score more corals than algae. i prefer algae since they are easier but it would be a problem in playoffs
Good point. However, mechanism wise I think it would be nice.
what it looked like on the cad is that you cant just flick it out you would have to be able to grab the ball to pull it out unless you have a different idea.
You’d be surprised what can be “just flicked” given the right angle and/or force.
I’d prioritize coral, mainly because there’s only 9 algae max. So if they are all scored then it’s useless. There’s also a lot more coral, and you get more points from it.
Coral is so much easier, a arm could probably remove the algae at the start of the match, and shooting the algae into the net is so insane and useless. Since you get more points for scoring in the processor and then having the hp score in the net. There is also way more scoring spots for coral than the algae.
Isn’t shooting in the net +4 points and scoring in the processor +6 and -4 if the opposing human player makes the shot?
I agree that coral is better, but shooting algae to the net isn’t useless. Remember that putting it in the processor let’s the opposition HP shoot to the net. Overall you get less points compared to the other alliance then if you shot it to the net in the first place.
Net - 4 points
Processor - 6 points, and 4 for the opponent if they score in the net
wait really, i didnt know it let the other hp shoot?
Sadly. The vocab for the processors is weird.
A robot that is not designed in an orderly way to kick algae will get in trouble there in my opinion and that is what creates the importance of this.
The significance of the corals is not high without the algae robot.
true
Coral in my opinion. As long as you have a way to kick the algae out, but you don’t need to continue controlling it after that, just boot it out and continue scoring the coral.
The only way for algae to be worth it in my opinion, is to 100% focus on it, so much so that as the barge fills up, the opposing human players start missing their shots. Thus netting you the full 6 points rather than just 2. But if you split your objectives doing coral and algae (like 2-4), they’ll make every free throw and those 2 points won’t be worth much compared to 100% coral focus.
You can shoot the algae into the net for 4 points as well. Not disagreeing with the general sentiment of this thread that a coral-only bot would be better than an algae-only bot.
