Aluminum? Where we're going, we don't need...aluminum

With the thankful arrival of steel hex bore gears from West Coast Products, the only aluminum gears left in our Flipped DS shifters were the dog gears. With the help of a friendly sponsor, we’re seeking to change that. Let’s see how this goes:

I’m not quite sure what we are going to do without the teflon-infused ceramic coating for superior performance, though. Kinda scared, ngl.

Just curious, what do you have against aluminum?

I like STEEL gears! PITTSBURGH STEELERS! MAKE IT UGLY!

Excited to see what you bring to the field this year.

Nothing. But the 6 NEO’s in our drivetrain last year caused the original aluminum gears much angst. The drivetrain held up well in both offensive and defensive operations throughout the season, but not without requiring more maintenance than we would have liked. We swapped aluminum for steel gradually last year (adapting AM steel gears and others to the task since direct steel replacements weren’t available), and that seemed to help, but the dogs remained aluminum. They were barking very late in the season.

I have a hunch many teams are going to be finding this as they are able to run the robots more.

Not sure if intentional, but I like it either way.
