AM KOP chassis scrubbing

Happy robot season,

So we are using AM 14U3 chassis with the 8 wheel conversion, we have on 4" wheels, I’m noticing some scrubbing when turning, is there a quick fix?
Maybe switch out a certain wheel in the pattern to make turning easier with OMNI?

Anyone else noticeing this? Thank you in advance
-Michael

Yes, switching out a few wheels to Omni wheels will help.

I’d recommend deciding where you want the most slide to occur. For instance, for gear placement, you might want the end of the robot that will be placing gears to be able to slide more easily left and right for peg alignment. If so, then swap out the pair on that end.

Another choice might be to keep regular wheels on the end that is most likely to get jostled by defenders.

Another deciding factor might be weight distribution. If one end of your robot is a lot heavier than the other and other factors like the ones above aren’t important, then put the omnis on the heavy end. The light end is turning easier already.

That’s all I have. Good luck!

thanks!

It you still want to retain having 8 traction wheels, you could just slap the effected wheels on a lathe and machine some diameter off.

I was thinking that also, shaving down the AM white wheels about a 1/4 maybe, has anyone done it?

Take a look at the different ‘4 inch’ wheels on the market. For instance, Vexpro’s wheels that are similar to the AM wheels you are using are actually 4 1/16.

Andy Mark’s are a true 4 inch:

If you look at vexpro with their supplied tread, they are 4.250:

You can adjust your rocker by using different wheels. Most of these wear down pretty quickly, so shaving them down (unless they are colsons) will be only a temporary fix that you will have to repeat if you go that route. It’s usually easier just to replace them with new.
