AM14U5 chassis drifting

My team is using the chassis provided in the kit of parts for our robot this year. Something we noticed is that the right wheels seem to be dragging. At low power they don’t move at all, and at higher power they definitely move slower than the left wheels. Has any other teams found this issue?

Do you have videos that you can share?

We’ve seen that on many an AndyMark chassis over the years. In our case, it’s almost always been because either the Churros between the frame rails and/or the 3/8" bolts that serve as the front/rear axles are too tight.

Make sure neither are squeezing the frame rails too tightly together. We’ve found this can cause the wheels to have too much friction, leading to slow or no movement.

Check for overtightening of the gearboxes (this is hard to do unless you miscut the churro stock), missing or misaligned key shaft, the shaft ring (looks like a washer with teeth) being in place to hold the gears down, etc.

If you open the gearbox and see a greyish mush you might also have gears that were misplaced and the greyish mush is shredded gear teeth. It mixes with the grease and discolors it. Check that the gears are still in good shape, some discoloring is normal.

Also double check that the motors are spinning the correct direction and not fighting each other inside of the gearbox. (Probably not this either or you’d see little/no movement and the motors getting hot from stalling)
