It’s wednesday and that means a new episode of American Robot. Last week due to the overwhelming views, our first site exceeded its bandwith. This week we have multpile mirrors to lesson the load. Again I want to thank everyone for all the support so far. The sound in this episode is superb. The video is a little lower quality though. By week 3 we will have both sound and video up to par. This week’s episode entitled “Time to Finalize” is 14 minutes long and aobut 2/3 the size of the last low resolution episode and the high resolution is almost half the size of the last one. Please enjoy this episode and again we would like to hear ANY and all comments or questions about this.
I just wanted to compliment Rick on his insane audio editing. If you listen closely in the middle, when “carry on my wayward son” starts playing… it’s obviously a digitally inserted copy. But midway through the song it transitions to it actually playing on the boom box… then it transfers back to the digital version…
One thing I would like to emphasize to all of you is please download the movie to your hard drive. This will save on bandwidth, and allow more people to enjoy it.
To download onto your hard just right-click on one of the three links and go to “save-target as” for a wintel or “Download Linked files As…” for a Mac.
No high res …oh well…I know you were having bandwidth issues. I think that you should make a season long video, high-res that you can send out via CD…I would pay a nominal price (to cover making and shipping the CD) for a nice video that compiles the American Robot series. If you find that you have more than enough bandwidth now, it would be nice to get a high-res version of week 2. Thanks for the excellent video.
We were thinking about making the CD available at nationals, and maybe including a blooper reel. We might ask for a donation to the team, but those of you who are poor could just cover the cost of the CD. Ask Rick for more details on this.
How nice it is to see the exciting things happening at building two, especially when im up here in far away Worcester (1.5hour drive). That video is amazing, really shows what the team is all about, happy to see all the students working in this video, because I fully understand how much they really do help out. Hope i can stop by and see it/help out sometime soon. nice editing, and anxiously awaiting a high res copy.
Kudos on a great piece of work. You’ve done a fantastic job of capturing the atmosphere of a FIRST build season. I’m quite impressed. Plus, I love all the footage of your illustrious '97 and '98 robots. Keep the good stuff coming.
Ogre knows of what he speaks. I believe he was driving for 173 (195 and 88 were alliance partners) in the 2002 New England Regional Finals against the eventual Champs 121, 69, and 103.
Here are some pictures from 103’s perspective:
I’ve got match video of the entire finals from SOAP if anyone is interested.
121 was awesome that year and had a sewing machine in the pit (Edit - Elgin beat me on this tidbit /Edit)
Thanks for the kind words and finding the answer. 2002 was a great season. Also thanks to the mirrors for thier help. We went from one or two the first week to a whopping 10(!) different downloads. Thanks again and if looking for an easter egg watch the credits till the end. (It has to do with CD)

If so please let us know. We are now officially receiving assistance from the University of Rhode Island Student Film Association and want to know if we should book them on the trips with us.
Comments really help a lot.
Please tell us what kinds of things you want to see
That would be excellent. It would be nice to see how much/what you do in your pit during the competition. It would also be nice to see some actual competition…or at least highlights. And having the student film association helping you must be nice…but now I am expecting more from the productions (ok…I won’t expect more, but it would be nice). Keep up the good work.
