American Robot Season 2 Episode 4!

Hey everyone, another week another episode. Watch this week to see a completed drive train with a working manipulator. Please post any questions or comments. I leave much of the nitty gritty detail out to let people watch and then ask questions.

whats up with peter in your picture frame

I like the driving… did the frame actually flex as much on impact as it looked like in the video?
I dunno what you guys are using as axles, but they must be really strong…

You don’t see the resemblance?

All versions are now up @ http://americanrobot.rhodewarrior.org/

Note:
The Ultra version has been taken down

really looking forward to seeing the bot and 121 in Boston!!

no the frame doesnt bend as much as it looks like. Yes are axels are quite strong… used the same kind for the 3rd year now and never failed us once.

Also yes… ricksta does quite resemble the great peter griffin… and we also live where some of family guy is based “newport, RI”

Joe wasn’t joking in the video…those stairs down to Dave’s basement are very unsafe!!

Very mice manipulator. I wanna see how u guys do at scoring in the top 2 rows. Hope to see ya again this year

Interesting episode, but it seems like there isn’t 10 minutes of content. That said though, i loved it and will likely watch it a second or a third time.

It was important to see that it climbs the old ramp, which means it can climb most team’s ramp this year. Scoring on a moving spider seems to be a problem, but there is a solution and with this much time you should be able to practice enough to eliminate it as a problem. The slotted device at the Freddy Kruger part appeared similar to the holes on a door hinge that my hallmate has. Maybe its a mount for the springs earlier seen in AmerRobo? Lets see some footage of more spider scoring, and some ramp action.

edit: and where is the power wheels?

The power wheels? Follow the link below to see why its not bing used:

(its the last photo of the day on page 3)

And as always, check out www.joemenassa.com for plenty of 121 photos!

The slotted piece of angle is a part of the arm chain tensioner (you can see it quick during the “fly by” of the robot in the beginning of the episode - the slot is what mounts to the vertical square tubing). The three holes were various bolt thru holes for the tensioning sprocket. We have another nylon sprocket with a potentiometer tapped off this tensioning sprocket for arm positioning feedback.

The power wheels needs some serious overhauling…haha…those kids have beat that thing to the ground! Hopefully it will be up and running again soon.
