Since 2018, RPs achieved haven’t scored in playoff matches. Those RPs could be repurposed as tie breakers in the playoff matches. Instead of starting with cumulative fouls (which is a negative value), start with the easiest RP criterion (as measured by TBA’s Insights), then the next RP criterion. Then conventional tiebreakers could proceed in order.
For this years game, it would be say:
Tiebreaker 1: did both alliances get at least 26pts on the charging station
Tiebreaker 2: did both alliances score 5 links, or 4 if the coop was enabled
Tiebreaker 3: penalties, etc for normal tiebreakers
Am I understanding it correctly?
Worth noting that this has actually changed in 2023- the first tiebreaker is now cumulative TECH FOUL points.
I do like the spirit of where your proposal is going- I think the tradeoffs with the tiebreakers are all around which component of the game you want to incentivize the most.
The only rules that i think teams will violate which result in tech fouls is the multiple extension in opponent zone and the launching game pieces. All of the others are either major infractions (killing a robot) which would have resulted in a card anyways, or robot design problems (overextension, multiple direction extensions) I fully expect that no tech fouls will be issued and it goes to the 2nd tiebreaker most of the time (which is charge station points)
