Has anyone here bought and experimented with the AndyMark Ratchet Sport?
Looks pretty neat and promises the ability to shift under load. However, the ratchet gear’s method of engaging with the pinion gear kinda sketches me out…
We haven’t tried it yet (I doubt many people have, it only arrived this summer) but I’m not inclined to worry about the gear. The ratchet has beefy teeth where it engages with the pawl. The feature that engages with the central gear contacts at 8 points, so it’s more like a spline than a gear. The only thing I wonder is whether the spline allows any radial “float”. If so, the gear will see even less load .
