AndyMark swerve frame

Hi, we’re just getting started with AndyMark swerve modules, and I’m wondering what other folks are using for frame stock. 1x2 box beam is too tall, it hits the rotating parts. do you use 1x1? c beam? angle iron? some other arrangement? thanks!

Could you possibly post pictures or specify whether you’re using Swerve & Steer, SDS MK4, or SDS MK4i modules? As all 3 are available from AndyMark.
Personally I have no experience with the Swerve & Steer modules but I belive they’re the same as MK4 modules in that you can use 2x1 box tubing rails all the way to the corners with no issues.
If you’re using the MK4i however note that these modules are meant to take the place of the corners of your frame

The swerve and steer old modules or the new ones that are swerve drive specialties units?

I mean the ones AndyMark makes. They’re quite different from the SDS modules.

FWIW, Most teams who have been doing swerve drive lately have been using other COTS options (WCP’s SwerveX, SDS modules, etc.).

That being said, looking at the design of the AndyMark Swerve & Steer modules, if you want to mount the frame below the motor mount plate, you’re right that 2x1 tubing would be too tall, but 1x1 tubing would work. Another option, of course, is mounting the frame on the top of the motor mounting plate - 2x1 tubing would work in this case.

I would not recommend using C-channel or angle iron for the robot frame. Tubing is much easier to mount mechanisms to, and is more rigid structurally.
