It’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything on these forums. I started back in 1998 in FIRST, and used to run a website called FirstRobotics.net The intention of the site was to create a pictorial history of FIRST Robots in one place online. I always got a lot of good feedback and thought it provided a good service to the community. Well, my career took off, and I really didn’t have the time to keep it up. I have been thinking a lot about it in recent years, and finally was able to get it back up and running. I had let the web registration lapse, so now it has been re-born at FirstRobotPics.com I have a decent amount of pictures up there, but unfortunately had lost a bunch of my archives. There is a place for people to submit their own pictures, so if you have a better picture of a robot from a certain year, or one that is missing from the site please submit it. I have a lot of future ideas for the site, but at least it’s up and running, the first giant step.
This is really cool; there are pictures of our team on there that I’ve never even seen, someone must have submitted them ages ago. This looks like a great service for the FIRST community to have. Have you considered any sort of integration with The Blue Alliance?
If you type in a 4-digit number in the search box on the main page you will see all pictures of that team. I just need to work on the labels that appear in the search results.
Agreed, this is really awesome. There’s even a picture of our robot last year, and I (nor anyone on my team) didn’t submit it, meaning someone took pictures from CD! Awesome website, I can tell this will come in handy in the future.
This is fantastic. The original firstrobotics.net was one of the resources that helped “teach” me how to design FRC robots. I remember spending hours and hours pouring over the old pictures, reverse engineering each robot, and trying to learn as much as I could about how they worked.
This site is great! I spent like 2-3 hours last night looking at the pictures of a lot of the teams, especially the teams that were on Einstein in years’ past.
Thanks for the feedback guys. I kinda wish I had been able to get it up earlier in the build season this year, as I always thought it was really useful to look back at successful robots from years that had similar game features. I have lots of ideas for the future of the site, and lots of people have been sending in new pictures already. Hopefully someday we’ll have a picture of every robot that has competed in FIRST! It really is amazing to see how far it has come since 1992…
Loading photographs takes a long time, or doesn’t happen at all… it has the red “LOADING” on top and doesn’t show any photos. The internet I’m on should be loading the images in a maximum of ten seconds or so (even if it’s something like 2000x3000 pixels). Is it just me?

I do have to say some of the pictures are quite large, I have to work on that for some of them. That is probably the issue your having (there are a few that are 4mb)
I am definitely going to make another post in the next week or so, but it would be awesome if people could get a picture of each robot at the regionals they attend for the site. I used to do this at all the events I would go to, just walk around the pits and grab a picture. I’ll be at the Orlando, and hopefully south florida regionals this year, so those should be covered. And if things go well, I may be at the championships as well.
I’m getting extremely slow load times, too. You need to set each picture to link to the large or medium size, not original. This will also save you bandwidth, too.
Also a suggestion, if you have time I think a collaboration between you and www.thebluealliance.com I would make both sites more useful and the scouters would love you.
