Any Suggestions for Good Beam-sensors?

Hi everyone! Currently looking for a good beam-sensor to detect when a robot intakes an object, stores it, and then releases the object. Does anyone have any good suggestions for sensors they’ve used in the past or have heard good things about?

This season, we plan to use this 5mm LED beam break sensor from Adafruit, off a recommendation from another team. They’re stupid cheap compared to most industrial automation related products, and much more compact and easier to package in theory.

Thank you for the suggestion, I’ve been hearing a lot about these specific type of sensors. I know this is not always the case but do you know if the cheap price indicates any lack in quality?

No problem. It is lower cost due to it being pretty simple, not poorer quality. To my knowledge, and in my experience, adafruit has a good reputation with quality.

We have used those sensors for years, have never had an issue with them. It has allowed us to get away from limit switches
