Anyone else having issues with neos?

We have been using neos for years now and have been having issues with them as of recent. We have had multiple neos skip and become hard to turn and not work correctly, we have had many of the pinions for sport gearboxes come off. The ones we have issues with are two on the elevator with 16:1 gearboxes and two climber neos with 64:1. We have some krakens and forces on the bot with no issues.

No issues with about 7 new NEO on our bot this year. We’re using them with both Max and Versa Planetary reductions, one direct to belts.

Are your motors used from previous seasons? How do they feel ungeared?

They are vl band new and are hard to turn after they slip

Check the length of the screws mounting the neos to the gearboxes. If they are too long they will hit the rotor on the inside.

We had that issue last year and made sure to put the right bolts on. It’s hard to turn with all hardware off

Double check that none of the wires coming from the motor are touching when you are checking how hard it is to turn. If it is still hard to turn and the motors don’t work properly, you might have to get new motors.

They are all connected. It’s hard to turn when it’s off and this keeps happening.

Pull of the can using the small bolts around the top perimeter and check the two small set screws holding the shaft in. When those come loose you’ll get slip and the neo will feel like it’s stiffened up.

Might wanna add some loctite when you tighten them back up

In our 2023 season we had a bad batch of NEOs where the internal magnets came unglued from the housing, which caused the motor to seize up, so if possible you might want to open the casing and check the magnets. Another member of my team posted about this back then here

The only issue we have with them are the flimsy encoder wires…

Weird we never had issues with that
