seems like we have a lot of ball handlers… so i’m guessing a BUNCH of robots with ARMS…
i can see lots of attempted hooks as well.
anyone not doing balls?

we’re just gonna balance goals(i said we should use the gyro chip, but they rammed their arms down my throat and pulled my pancreas out… ;))

but do not give up on it my friend. you are welcome to write the code and attach it. it doesnt weigh a thing anyway!
for that matter, i already know of some teams attempting this (and will probably succeed).

Our team leaders (read: ninnies) were against picking up balls. A few of the students (including myself) were very interested in going after large balls, however the team leaders (read: ninnies) overruled us.

We aren’t. We transport the goals, clear the balls from under the bridge, as well as stabalizing it.

Well it seems like these days all I hear from people are that they are controling goals… clear balls, gate keeping, balancing. I am kind of worry that too many teams picked this strategy, and that all those teams are going to have a really hard time shining among the huge crowd of balancer/gatekeeper…
Is this just me, or lots of people actually decided to forget about balls and go straight for the multipliers… Maybe we won’t have as much diverse robots as I thought.

We are taking the goal/stretcher/bridge tack. I guess it was mainly our rookie team view of trying not to get in over our heads. The other tasks seemed simpler. Of course its true as one of our engineers pointed out that those who can handle the big balls will help their team and come out on top due to the 10% bonus. So maybe call it a rookie team strategy error?..there’s always next year - ack!

I COMPLETELY agree with you here, Ken. I too am noticing an increasing amount of teams that are attempting to grab the goals and balance one or both of them on the bridge. I genuinely hope that I (or maybe both of us for that matter) am incorrect in this view and that there will be a very diverse field in this year’s competition. But, the more I think about it, the more I believe that we’ll be seeing the SAME strategy EVERY round. This will also make determining a top score much more difficult, as with picking alliance partners for the elimination rounds.
Just my personal thoughts…

Actually, if almost all the robots do the same thing, it makes it much easier to pick your alliance partners. Since you don’t need a robot that duplicates your own, the number of robots to choose from is significantly reduced.

In reality isn’t this to be expected? I mean, it’s probably one of the simpler things to design and build (I’m not going to comment on execution). So most teams will probably end up going for something along these lines. Seems to me, this is the first FIRST competition (ah! double first) that had this level of specialization available. I’ll be rather suprised if I see a 'bot capable of doing everything but only time will tell. I guess this makes me a little happier we’re going after the little balls – much easier to be a picked alliance.
Matt who figured everyone would be going after the big balls but guesses he was wrong…
