Apex Robotics 5803 2019 Reveal

Apex Robotics 5803 is proud to present our 4th creation: Redshift: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0VWC4EZ_UM

Our goals this year were to be small, light and fast at low level scoring, and earn the HAB Docking RP. To that end Redshift is just 22.5" long x 26" wide and 99lbs, and sports a 6x 775 Redline-A drivetrain. We can score Cargo in Level 1 Rocket and Cargo Ship, Hatches on the Cargo Ship and Level 1 and 2 Rocket, and climb to HAB 3.

Redshift is competing at the PNW Mount Vernon, Sundome and Glacier Peak districts, and hopefully PNW District Championship and Houston!

Really cool robot! I like the double position cargo intake, climber, and belted elevator a lot.

The short wheel base is an interesting choice and may be great for leaving room on the level 3 platform for partners. I have to ask though, are you worried about tipping?

Love it. Amazing robot, as usual from Apex!

Really cool robot! What are the pneumatic fingers on the elevator carriage for?

i think theyre for pulling down the first stage in order to make it a climber

Yup. There are hooks on the top of the fixed stage that hold the middle stage stationary for most of the match. When we want to go climb, we bring the trolley all the way to the top and the latches on the trolley actuate to engage the trolley with the middle stage and disengage the outer stage latches. Then we pull down with the trolley and the robot goes up!

Here’s a video of one of our early version with plastic hooks and prototype springs: https://photos.app.goo.gl/PTb1rNJHqot85yDj9
