…are you suggesting that domestic abuse is a recent invention?
Not that this is correct or appropriate on any public forum or for that matter AT ALL, but you may want to give extra consideration to the fact that as an adult involved in a youth robotics competition, you are stating that “it’s a shame” that someone needed to issue an apology for making jokes on domestic abuse on a forum for said youth robotics competition. Great example to be setting.
Also probably don’t want to double down and defend your position but that’s just my advice.
I closed the topic since it very quickly derailed somehow…
Domestic abuse wasn’t, isn’t, and will never be funny. People often laugh as a trauma response, or in response to situations in which they’re uncomfortable. This paper by D. Keltner, et al. provides some academic insight. If any of you want to discuss the merits of helping students unpack trauma and providing a safe shop and remote learning environment during the pandemic, I’m sure that’ll make a lovely different thread.
Thanks.
Edit: I also added a content warning to the title of the thread, given that the contents of the thread can be upsetting to survivors of domestic abuse and unexpectedly triggering.
