What is the definition of “one appendage”?
For example are two arms, which are actuated separately to lower the ramp one or two appendages? What if you mechanically link them? And exactly how bendy can the joint be before it’s not a link anymore? I would love to see this be in the definitions if we ever get a definitions section.
<G21> introduces appendages, but it does not clearly define them.
Use fair judgement. If they are a single mechanism serving a common purpose, they should be considered a single appendage. With this said, if your design seems to “walk the line” between 1 appendage and two, you should consider changing it to fit more closely within the rules.
Please keep in mind that the GDC does not want any “lawyering” and would prefer that teams stay well within the rules.
My interpretation is that ANYthing crossing outside the frame perimeter is an appendage. Only one of these appendages may cross outside the frame perimeter at any given instant.
If you have two or more arms that are operated non-independently - think “pitchfork” (even if articulated), it’s one ‘appendage’.
Of course, your referee may disagree.
