April Absurdity 2013

Would it be possible to extend your automated parsing to also look at statistics (which team was picked to win einstein the most, win their division, listed in the most brackets, #1 seed was picked to win the division, etc)?

That moment when day 2 is over and you just KNOW you’re going to lose… :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, that was part of my plan from the beginning for the scoring program. I’m still working on some of the issues in the bracket parser though, so it will probably be a little while before I get around to fully implementing the statistics

So how are you guys fairing after alliance selections? I have 56 points, having guessed two alliance captains, and not including the pre-Looking-Forward bonus

Really wish I submitted now. I half filled in the Galileo bracket, with 118 as #1 seed picking 1114, and 1477 and 610 winning it all from the #2 seed.

Yeah my bracket isn’t that good…I managed to only have 1 team in my bracket actually make it onto einstein. At least I can’t do worse than 20th!

I placed 21st, don’t worry.

At least I had 3 teams that made it to Einstein; and 2 of them made the finals. But other than that, I dont think I did very well.

Here’s a quick breakdown, just looking at Einstein, based on the posted brackets:

3 teams on Einstein:
Joe Ross OPR: 469, 610, 3476: 54 points
Lemiant: 469, 33, 610: 54 points

2 teams on Einstein:
tim-tim 33, 1477: 60 points
Adam Stockton: 469, 303: 42 points
Drennael: 469, 1640: 42 points
JoelG236: 469, 3476: 42 points
Joe Ross: 469, 1477: 42 points
Staxis: 469, 148: 42 points
DragonKing: 469, 1678: 24 points

No one had 1241, 1477, or 610 winning the championship. tim-tim had both 33 and 1477 making the Einstein Finals.

Holy crap, someone actually predicted us making it to Einstein?

Yep, I actually predicted you being with 67 on einstein but I was more than happy to have you with us at einstein instead.

Wow I’m a little suprised that there were only 20 brackets filled out. A neat thing on mine was that I picked 14 correct quaterfinalist teams in each bracket. The weird thing is that I really didn’t use any metric or stat while filling mine out. The sad part of mine is that I broke form and picked the third alliance to beat my “sleeper” teams in the 6th alliance on Newton. Well let’s just say that 3476 was that sleeper team. :frowning: A big shout out to frc team 639 for doing April Absurdity this year and I hope you decide to continue it to make April Absurdity a championship tradition. I hope people did much better than me and I think I might sit at 20 when this is over.

My Bracket Totals(unofficially):
A:70
C:45
G:42
N:38
E:18
T:213

Edit: I cant believe I forgot the Looking Forward bonus. Thanks for the reminding replys guys. With the 15% bonus I’m at 244.95 final points. I still think I’m going to be in the bottom half even though I made it without too much “burring” of my bracket from Curie(major congrats to Frc team 1678).

For my bracket, I used all 5 and 7 autonomous robots as my captains and then paired each with an elite cycler or a good full court shooter. Then I looked at the division opr rankings and filled in the rest of the teams.

Here are my unofficial totals:

Archimedes- 58
Curie- 31
Galileo- 46
Newton- 45
= 180
+bonus 21
=201
x1.15
=231.15

Well, you could be proud! Your rank is no lower than 19! I got 208… (15% unincluded)

A: 60
C: 42
G: 37
N: 49
E: 20
T: 208 unofficially, *1.15=239.2

I have to say this was great fun ^^ Especially when I reallised I’m going to get my $@#$@#$@# kicked and started joking with myself about how bad I did :stuck_out_tongue:

Edit: unrelated but I didn’t know CD had censoring… I like it

YES!!! It looks like I may just achieve last place.

Archimedes: 62
Curie: 49
Galileo: 42
Newton: 39
Einstein: 19
No Looking Forward Bonus: x 1.00
Total: 211!!!

I dare someone to try and get less than that.

Archimedes: 51
Curie: 53
Galileo: 50
Newton: 56
Einstein: 26

Total 236 x 1.15 = 271.4!

67 was actually originally above 148 on our pick list but seeing their FCS get shut down in their last qual match gave us the impression that they were not going to be able to FCS effectively, if we played counter-defense to protect 148 or 67 148 would be more effective because 67 could be blocked from further away. You guys were one of the top bots on our 2nd pick list, I couldn’t believe how fortunate we were that you had been overlooked, you guys were a fantastic pick and you played outstanding defense, be proud of yourselves.

Thanks! we appreciate it!

When do these get scored?

I’m hard at work, but there’s a few technical issues with them, as well as some surprise personal obligations that are sucking up my time. A fair number of brackets have mistakes which are confusing the parser enough that I have to manually enter them (missing fields, changing alliances, round finishing in 1 match, etc), and there’s also another 10 or so that were submitted with methods other than a pdf form (my favorite being Joe Ross’s OPR bracket, which has all the fields filled, but was somehow stripped of the form metadata). I’m hoping I can have the scores completed by Friday.

I think I scored this right:
A:67
C:42
G:35
N:50
E:18
212*1.15=243.8

I might have missed a couple Captains…
