Are cowbells or other noisemakers allowed in the stands at champs?

At our regionals, our team brought cowbells, clappers, and maracas in the stands. Are these allowed at champs? The event guide prohibited items list does have “noisemakers (musical instruments, bullhorns, airhorns, whistles, etc.)” Do the items I mentioned early fall into that category?

Plz no

Event Manual says you probably shouldn’t have had them at your regionals, either.

I agree. Another mentor on my team is arguing that since they are not explicitly stated, that we should bring them.

It blanket bans all noisemakers, then gives some explicit examples.

That’s what I thought.

I remember the days before that rule existed. It was a bad time. Teams used to bring marching bands, then that got banned. Then teams brought “clap sticks” (chunks of wood they would slap together). That helped lead to this version of the rule.

The only noisemakers I’ve seen be consistently permitted since this rule is relatively small sheets of polycarbonate that can be bent back-and-forth to make a “whooshing” sound. Not huge ones, just like 8" x 12" or so.

Shout out to those inflatable tubes and cut pool noodles used as clappers. I’m really not a fan of them and I don’t know why.

I don’t think the OP was talking about musical cowbells played with a stick that just happen to be loud enough to cut through amplified electric guitar. I expect he was talking about ear-splitting cowbells with clappers like might be used to annoy visiting football teams at certain unnamed stadiums. Cowbells indoors should result in an immediate removal from the venue. I’m thankful no one has yet asked about the legality of vuvuzelas.

If someone happens to have a working pair, and can video it… (If you know, you know. And non-green-and-black don’t count for this video.)

It did get quite noisy in those days.

Would this make ratchets illegal?

We have a legend on our team. In 2019 we made it to worlds via the lottery. We had a parent that would always bring a cowbell to competition. She rang that thing like crazy that year and I swear I saw Dean glare at her from his chair when he visited Daly. I think the next manual after that specifically listed cowbells as prohibited. I could be wrong but the cowbell was definitely gone from then on. And good riddance! It deafens everyone in the surrounding area.

I remember a team had kazoos and plastic hand clappers in 2017.

Think I still have hearing loss from the OG MOE sticks

Kinda sad that there’s no dominican teams at worlds. Kinda wanted to see one of em with a guira
