Are Notes Getting Softer?

To teams who have been testing a lot, are notes needing more compression to shoot after a lot of testing. My team is considering a variable compression shooter for this purpose if it is an issue. Thanks

Notes definitely get softer as you play with them. For this reason a side wheel shooter might be a bit tricky. A lot of teams are handling this by using top and bottom wheels to shoot the Notes.

A variable compression shooter seems like a really complicated variable to control through the course of an event to maintain accuracy. I’d explore alternative ideas that are more resilient to changes in Notes.

Damaged notes get softer because the inside is not airtight any more.

I don’t think you’d need to go down the path of a variable compression shooter. That being said, dealing with game pieces of varying density ends up being a core part of any FRC game where you shoot foam game pieces. This density variation can occur both out of the box and over time with wear. Certain styles and parameters of shooters seem to be more resilient against this variation, but exactly what works is different with every game and goal.

So, it’s Decrescendo then.

Note. All competitions should have a good vacuum cleaner and a back up one. Vacuum operator needs training.

First thing we noticed when we opened the ten notes this week. The kickoff note was flopping around when your shook it, the new notes were fairly rigid.

Good point… something to explore.
