Hello. Our team is wondering if Tetrix Servos are considered to be “motors” for the purpose of amount of motor limits specific to the minibot supply rules.
Specifically, the minibot is allowed to have two motors (W739083). Could we use a Tetrix Servo in addition? Thanks for the clarification.
Remember that there are only so many PWM outputs to signal spikes, jaguars, victors and servos. The cRio PWM outputs are a maximum of 750 mA, so you can only “Y” a limited number of servos to one PWM output. Research the cRio for this year, as well as the current draw of the servos you are using. This cocept would also apply to the Tetrix control system I would guess, but I have no definitive info on that system. Maybe someone else can help with the Tetrix control system.
Teched, they’re asking about for the Minibot. The Tetrix normal control system is an NXT.
The answer: Are servos included in <R92>? No? Sorry, no servos allowed. Are Tetrix servos Tetrix motors of the particular model number? No? Sorry, no replacing a motor with a servo.
In Rule (92).A, there is a general statement that you can use Tetrix Components. There appears to be no limitation, and they have a 180 deg. and continuous rotation servo in the list of Tetrix components, along with a servo controller. It would seem to me those are allowable within the aforementioned constraints. Please correct me if, and why I am off base.
In addition, I commented on the Hostbot servos as I am sure some teams would be looking at this thread that want additional servo information.
The general statement on Tetrix components requires compliance with other rules. If Tetrix servos are more than 4W, they don’t comply. <G19> specifies the motor(s) as being the source of vertical motion. As such, if a servo was used, it would not be able to provide any vertical motion.
I think this question should be sent to Q&A: “Are Tetrix servos included in <R92-A>, or are they in violation of some other rule?”
