"Are You Safer Than a Sabre?" Team 772's safety video game

Hello everyone! This year Team 772 made a small computer game to promote safety in the FRC in and outside of competitions:

"Are You Safer Than a Sabre" is a tile-based RPG (similar to Pokemon, if you will); in this game you are a student who is helping our team arrive at our first competition of the season safety. During the game, you will navigate through our school and then the competition venue to complete a variety of tasks, including several quizzes on your knowledge of safety in the FRC. You will also be introduced to several members and mentors of our team!

We are distributing hard copies of this game on CD’s as part of our safety package to every team at every competition we go to this year. So far we’ve gone to Rochester, NY and Waterloo; we will be going to Toronto West next week. However, luckily for all of you teams out there whom we won’t be encountering at competitions, we’re uploading the game on here:

Here are a few screenshots from the game:

Just download and unzip, you will get the game program and an instructions text file (make sure you read the instructions before you play!). The game doesn’t require much to run and is only about 50MB.

So try it out if you’re interested! Hopefully you’ll learn something about safety through playing this game. Also, let us know what you think of the game, or any bugs/problems you encounter. Have fun!

I hope we tucked this somewhere I can find it after we fully unpack from our competitions. (Hopefully in our Safety Manual) I can’t wait to have the whole team have some fun with it!

This is amazing.
I made the mistake of talking to the girl who made the game in the game and she “let me try it out” and it restarted my game.
This is totally awesome.

I played through a couple times, and it made me grin.

Favorite part:
the “unreliable” programmer “borrowing” the team camera to take pictures of the lovely [sic] Canadian winter. (As a Seattleite, I have no point of reference by which to judge your winters. Ours usually involve lots of rain.)
You bought me at “similar to pokemon”.

Great initiative!

This game is awesome, and it’s a great way to show how important safety is.

Though our pit never seems that clean, Great job on the Game everyone. I Thoroughly enjoyed it. Though i do have one question, Is there actually someone who dresses up like a clown on a day to day basis?

Yes. One of our parents puts on a canadian flavoured wig, and flag…
