Armed Protests Downtown Houston.

Just a heads up for people in Houston this week,

If you didn’t know already Texas is an open carry state and semi frequently there are armed “protesters” around the courthouse area and in other places near downtown.
On most buildings now you will notice the 30.06 and 30.07 signs.

They usually keep to themselves but sometimes there can be counter protesters that egg them on.

I haven’t heard of any planned demonstration during this weekend but our large crowd might bring some people out.

It can be a little shocking for people from out of town to see these guys but don’t let them bother you.

If you do see anything suspicious or someone is harassing you or your group don’t hesitate to notify police.

It appears as if there are only 2 states with teams going to Houston that prohibit open carry firearms, but those people may not have seen open carry as common as it is in Texas. Keep in mind, however, that Texas requires a permit to open carry, so anyone you see open carrying is more than likely just a law-abiding citizen looking for no trouble. :slight_smile:

Eh, you’d be surprised at the motivation that some of these people will tell you about.

There’s a permit for handguns, but none is needed for long guns, but most of them walk around with rifles.

Now that would surprise some people :stuck_out_tongue: I’ve only known one man to open carry a rifle (really nice surplus m14). Up here in the corn state, the only open carry you really see is handguns (sometimes more than one, but those people are just paranoid)

These jackwagons here come out in full bdus and Kevlar with sometimes multiple assault weapons per person to “protest”

Each protest has it’s own flavor I guess. What are they protesting?

Different things every time usually, for awhile they were just camped around the Islamic center which is a few miles from the grb. Sometimes they claim it’s for this hearing protection act that they want passed to make it easier to get suppressors.

Mostly if you talk to them you will find they just want to intimidate people

There were many protesters and counter protesters yesterday a block from the venue. Police are everywhere so all should be fine

I feel like a honest few of them are actually there for the hearing protection act (yes please on the suppressorinos), but most of them are probably there for no reason other than hanging out and intimidation.

No worries… I won’t be going to Texas any time soon and I was curious what that meant so I used the googles…

Done plenty of walking around the venue and surrounding area. Didn’t encounter these folks, if they’re even here.
