Ok, if this doesn’t make sense to anyone but me or if there are glaring errors, I’m gonna chalk it up to the flu I have been battling.
Everyone seems to be putting out their own ranking so I thought I’d do my own. This is basically the same as the standard First Ranking but with a couple subtle changes.
- Removed Team Age Points (if a team is a great team I don’t care if they are rookies)
- Ability to choose the 2nd 2 events or the 2 best events.
My main reasoning for doing this is that our first event sucked (actually it was a very nice event, probably arguably one of the best run ones in the state). Our cameras were out, our strategy was horrid, etc. Our 3rd event was much better than our first, but didn’t count points wise. I understand fully why First does this, but to be perfectly honest when we pick alliance don’t we really want to see who is highest overall and not just their first 2 events? I started wondering how many other teams were in our boat. A bad first event dropping their rankings and hiding an otherwise very competitive bot.
Here is a link to the spreadsheet: http://team.robotarians.org/index.php?route=common/ranking
Seems like almost everyone has a third event listed, when in reality, very few teams actually played a third event this year.
I think that makes sense, but I would but more value on goal points. When I look at matches for the purpose of scouting I am looking at what each team can do to help my alliance win each part of the game. In auto if they can only cross a defence but cant consistently score a goal the best we can hope for is 30 points, not enough to win auto when this game is played at a high level.
I think to win teleop again the ability to hit consistent high goal from the defenses or multiple areas of the field has a higher value the low goals I am looking at points/sec
This is the only place in the game where scoring is unlimited. I am not saying low scoring is not important ,but I think there are more teams that have that ability. The ability to cross defense at this point of the season means very little, every team still playing should be able to handle 2 or 3 easily.
The end game, this to me is where the cream rises. Hanging was a second thought for many teams early in the season, but many good team have had time to think and improve. Games are going to be close and every point will count , a late goal and quick hang can and probably will change a lot of games.
Fixed the 3rd event issue… forgot to clear it out if a team didn’t have it.
I can add goals to it or auto I suppose. Mostly I just wanted to know how many teams were lower than their bots capabilities. Especially after a LOT of teams I have gotten used to seeing at MSC just aren’t going to be there. We thought we were going to be one after our first event after all.
It doesn’t show in the doc for some reason, but we would catapult pretty high up in the rankings due to our 3rd event where we would have gotten got 71 points, from being the 3rd alliance captain, winning, and taking home EI, according to The Blue Alliance. Its a shame that we didn’t qualify for states with the robot due to two average first events, but that’s the rules we agreed to. Hopefully FIRST can look into changing that for the future. But for now, its time to work on that EI presentation!
EDIT: I didn’t see the tabs. Never mind about not being there.
That is too bad, I see that would have placed you around rank 51. Maybe this will give you something to go to your team and let them know how strong they finished.
