At a regional? Submit robot photos!

If you’re at a Week One regional, you should submit photos of all the robots their to The Blue Alliance so we can put them up for scouting future events!

To submit a photo of your team or another team’s 2008 robot, send an email to [email protected]. Attach a horizontally oriented photo of the robot named ###.jpg where ### is the team’s number. For instance, if they are team 5462, attach “5462.jpg”, and if they are team 1, attach “1.jpg”. Automated scripts handle downloading and processing the attachments, so it is important you stick to this convention! You can attach as many robot photos to a single e-mail as you want, so submit as many robots from your regional as you can!

Full instructions can be found on our site.

Thank you so much to The Blue Alliance for hosting such a great scouting resource! Hopefully many people will contribute to the system by adding photos. I do, however, have a few questions/comments:

  1. By horizontally oriented, does this mean that the image has to be landscape-style, or just oriented for normal viewing? It’s not clear, especially since there are some portrait-style robot photos on TBA currently.

  2. How do your scripts handle multiple photo submissions for one team? Does a new image replace an older one, or will it be displayed in addition to any earlier images?

  3. I would suggest linking to the photo-upload instructions from your team information pages, on the sidebar perhaps. When I was browsing your site I wanted to submit a photo for my team and wondered how, but checking the About and Contact Us pages offered no guidance. I didn’t think to look in the blog and only stumbled upon this thread by coincidence.

That said, it is a wonderful system and I look forward to making great use of it during this season!

Seems like a great idea.

Any resolutions you would prefer?

  1. It turns out portrait and landscape both work, but I am pretty sure landscape is easier to understand and fits better, so I would opt towards those.

  2. Currently a newer photo will replace an older one, but for more robot photos the system links to appropriately tagged photos on CD-Media.

  3. This is an excellent idea. I will update the page when I get a chance.

Thanks!
