Atlanta Hackerspace sponsoring first team!

Hi Chief Delphi!

Freeside Atlanta has agreed to sponsor Carver School of Technologie’s First Robotics team, 1795. We are really looking forward to playing a role in the game this year.

Freeside is a hackerspace in Atlanta, Ga. Our membership includes artists, engineers, tinkerers, machinists, metal workers, and vagabonds of all kinds. We have a 5500 sq foot warehouse in the West End of Atlanta, with a machine shop and rapid prototyping equipment, including a CNC, a rather large lathe, a makerbot, 2 Z Corp 3D printers, a foundry, a kiln, welding equipment, as well as an assortment of wood and metal working hand tools.

We offer classes to the public on a regular basis, including our very popular welding workshops, usually offered on Sundays.

Carver School of Technology (team 1795) approached us for sponsorship opportunities, and the membership really got behind the idea. We have offered them access to our space and tools for the duration of their build season, as well as a cachet of mentors as needed.

I would love to encourage other teams to approach hacker spaces in your area, and other hacker spaces to find nearby First teams!

http://www.hackerspaces.org has a list of hackerspaces around the world.

I am working on a press release, but I’m not skilled, so it might be a while

Oh, my mentors and some of their friends started a Hackerspace in LA last year.
