With week 2 almost done… who is looking forward to staying up late and watching Sydney in week 3?
Should be a great event!

Should be a great event!
Team 5333, 5663 and 4788 as Curtin FRC in Western Australia is looking forward to the regional! We can’t wait to see what fierce competition we’re up against this year, but more importantly, we can’t wait to see all the wonderful people there. See you at the MQ BBQ and Competition!
Yes, it should be a good competition.
I predict there will be a lot of robots getting air (Dukes of Stronghold) as they travel over defences, which should make it exciting. This is because a lot of teams have upgraded their AM14U3 to 8 inch Pneumatic wheels, and will be underweight. The fact that the AM14U3 uses a toughbox mini that has a maximum reduction of 12.75:1 meaning that teams can’t gear their chassis slower than 14fps and if they are using the standard KOP ratio of 10.71:1 their chassis will be geared for 16fps, which is very fast and probably not ideal.
We are looking forward to seeing 4613 in action. The reveal video was a great teaser. Hopefully we won’t have to stay up all night though. Not sure what the time difference is from Canada.
Thanks, we are glad you liked the video. The time difference is about 15 hours. Its midday on Monday in Sydney at the moment, you should definitely be able watch some matches, especially morning matches and early afternoon matches before it gets too late/
So if it is midday Monday then competition starts (Thursday) in under 72 hours? I’m just trying to wrap my head around the time difference.
To be clear - Sydney is exactly +15 hours from US/EDT.
The Blue Alliance should convert the match schedule into local time.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the team social tonight!
I’ll definitely be watching. There are some great teams, as well as up and coming talent in FRC going to Australia.
Some notable teams that I know of:
3132 Thunder Down Under: Fantastic to work with at regionals and other events, as well as putting out great robots every year while greatly influencing the growth of FIRST in Australia.
4253 TAS Robotics: Team 610 had a chance to work closely with the Taipei American School at the Hawaii Regional last year, and I can safely say that they’re definitely a regional powerhouse.
4613 Barker Redbacks: Team 610 had a chance to work with Barker in the Curie Division last year, and they were extremely solid with their fantastic auto. They also look fantastic this year from their release video.
5606 Red Hurricane: When we went to the World Adolescent Robotics Contest in Beijing, we were amazed by this team’s full-court frisbee shooter (WARC played Ultimate Ascent) and their attitude. Having spoken at length with their mentors and students, they’re really looking forward to a great year in FIRST.
Any webcast?
Your reveal video song is like, my go-to jam right now.
We used a newly released HH song we went to upload the video to youtube, and of course youtube kindly muted the audio, because the song was protected(this isn’t a bad thing). We ended up having to put in on Vimeo instead.
I’ll see if I can get the webcast address and upload it/ put it on Gameday. The Webcast should be good again this year.
This stream is in high quality, the multiple angles of the field are very nice. Sound is good too, very impressed with the setup.
I really like the fact that I can hear the robots, I wish more webcasts used on the field microphones.
Well our prime minister just showed up!
OMG we just had a marriage proposal on the field!
And thank goodness, she said yes!!! Go Curtin FRC!
It’s all happening here at the Australia Regional, check it out at:
Wow, that is BIG. I am certain they will be quite impressed.
Oh goodness, the on and off arrows at each gate indicating the direction your robot should be going is absolutely brilliant and beautiful.
The Aus Regional was amazing!
I’m a team member of 5333 Curtin FRC. That proposal was amazing and I cried a little! Tom and Tam are amazing people, and seeing them in Union now is fantastic!
What’s more is we got 7!!! teams to the US! Team 3132, 4613 and 6035 won, with 5333 (whoo), 5663 (another Curtin FRC team) and 5087 coming as finalists. 5333 won the Engineering Inspiration award for OpenRIO, and generated a Wildcard for 5663. 5807 got a Wildcard through 3132’s chairman’s award at Northern Lights, and an additional Wildcard was generated through Barker’s chairman’s win. Getting both the alliances in finals to worlds is amazing!!
We can’t wait to see everyone at St Louis. The Australian Regional was amazing and we’re so grateful to have attended!
