AutoCAD 2002

Anyone know where I can get my hands on a copy of AutoCAD 2002?

…autodesk?

Is 2002 even out yet?..I just got my Autodesk magazine today and i didnt see anything about 2002 in it…

Maybe it’s not out yet. i guess I’m just getting a little too excited. I’ve seen it on their site and I assumed it was out.

Hello,

I work as part of a development group that deals intimately with Autocad at Autodesk. Autocad 2002 will not be out until the later part of the summer probably the August time frame. I would guess my non-disclosure agreement prohibits from saying more.

Does anyone know what are the new features for AutoCAD 2002?

I’ve been using AutoCAD 2000 for a while now, and I remember there were quite some new features that set it apart from AutoCAD R14… For example, 3D Orbit is extremely useful, and some of the interface was changed…

But how can they possibly improve AutoCAD at this level? Some how I think it can only grow so much that it won’t be able to go to the next level unless there are some major changes in its core… But then we have Pro E and Uni-graphic for that already…

I wonder, what is the next step for designing software? I imagine Virtual Reality will become a big part… I’ve already seen people using those 3D glasses and gloves with some designing already… I wonder if that will become a normal household product in the future? Well, AutoCAD isn’t really a normal household product, but a lot of students can have AutoCAD in their computer if they choose to buy it…

There are a lot of improvements that can be made in Autocad. However, a lot of those are for more specific areas. I know that at work here (a Civil Engineering firm), we use both Microstation and Autocad. Microstation because it’s good for making very long road or rail plans. I’ve been told that it does better with things of that nature than Autocad. Autocad is only used because that’s how the various government agencies in Maryland want it. So there still is room for improvement and still room for polishing of Autocad. It’s got a lot of good features but there will always be room for improvement.
