Autodesk account for frc teams

Hey, does anyone know how can you get an Autodesk license or account through FIRST?
Could not find Autodesk on the first dashboard but they state it on the site that you could get an account for being an frc team

Unfortunately that link 404s and no longer directs to the support document. IMO seems to imply that process is no longer in use.

I’m concerned what that means for Autodesk support of FRC / FIRST now or in the future.

I go through the normal educational account systems. We only use Autodesk for Fusion’s CAM so there are only a few people who need an account and it’s not much trouble to have them sign up individually.

Hi, sorry for the late reply. The 404 was my bad, I made some really large changes to our website and broke the link. We tossed it on there last minute because Autodesk hadn’t hosted it anywhere else yet.

That process still exists and is currently being overhauled to streamline this experience for mentors. We really appreciate the patience.

Is there an update on this?

The process works for renewal but unfortunately doesn’t work for new mentor signup (one not associated with school so no .edu or ID that can be uploaded). Email to [email protected] as per the PDF gets zero respond. Not even an acknowledgement. Chat with EDU online agent was told that they can’t help with those partner/competition account activation and we have to wait to hear back. They said they were going to push up an internal ticket but that has been several days now (to be fair this is before last Friday so maybe someone will look into this by now). This isn’t helpful for any teams that want/need to use the Off Season to bring up new mentors/students at all.

It’s making it harder and harder to not switch to OnShape just for all the support that is available to FRC teams there. I’ll have a whole bunch of mentors kicking and screaming but reality is that it is a lot easier to create and manage accounts on OnShape then on Autodesk at this point. Which quite frankly is sad given the size of Autodesk that this process is so full of red tape. I thought the whole point of Fusion was that it was going to try to be different when they first came out several years ago.

We’ve been using Fusion for about 5 years and your assessment is spot on. I keep asking myself, why don’t we just make the jump to Onshape? Autodesk is not making this any easier, and I feel like I’m missing out on so much. The power of feature scripts and block CAD is getting very compelling. Plus we keep missing space claim for belt and chain runs because those are such a nightmare to integrate into a Fusion model.

Autodesk: I really want to stick with Fusion - GIVE ME A SOLID REASON! (And it isn’t CAM)

So it looks like the Educational Support ppl came through. After my online chat with them, I get the typical ā€˜how did we do, did we resolved your issues’ follow up email. I follow up and remind them that I am still waiting to hear back from their ā€œpartnerā€ side regarding my new mentor’s account. After about 2 days, they did manually activated the new mentor’s account. [Make sure all your communication is through the new mentor’s registered email].

So there is hope. Painful, extremely inefficient, but there is hope that a non-school related new mentor can still create a new account.

To be honest, my takeaway from this would be ā€œwarningā€, not ā€œhopeā€. Anyone can create an Onshape education account in about 5 minutes. No uploading verification documents, no red tape, no waiting for support to maybe or maybe not get back to you; just fill out a few textboxes and you are CADing.

we have OnShape account and absolutely it’s plain easy to do. But no CAM and we still have mentors who prefer Fusion so it’s a non-starter for us. [I would absolutely love to migrate to OnShape personally though given how much support it has among the FRC teams].

Sure about that?

NO CAM. at least not for the FREE edu version folks according to their last release.

I guess that’s understandable, given that the beta has only been out for like 5 months. Though I wonder, if you chatted with support and explained your use-case, if they would turn on the feature for your team’s accounts…

CAM -Studio is only available for the Edu-Enterprise Plan folks…this came out about a month ago.
