Autodesk has posted all AVA Entries on FIRSTbase

Autodesk has made all AVA entries available for viewing:

http://firstbase.autodesk.com/?nd=m_first_competition_vis_viewer

You can sort by Regional Event and view low-resolution versions or download high-resolution versions of each entry. Cool!

i’m confused. doesn’t the animation get judged at the same place you entered the chairman’s award and/or web page? we’re listed in firstawards.org as las vegas but our animation shows up on the florida regional.

No, unlike the CA and webpage, your Animation is submitted at every regional you attend.

thanks for the reply but then why doesn’t it show up at the las vegas one as well?

Because it is not entered in every regional you attend. If you actually read the rules it stated you had to select one regional you are attending to enter your animation.

Even though for some teams it appears under all regionals you will attend it will only be judged at the regional you specify

Awwww man!
Or sound file is all screwed up!
We’re doomed!

Did they change that for this year? I know last year 114 won at all three regionals they attended (with a mighty good animation I might add)

Have you downloaded & checked your original (large) file? Maybe that one sounds okay. I’m sure Autodesk will be using the high-resolution versions for judging.

They called us last Friday before we left for BAE to send another sound file.
I didn’t realize it was this bad.
Our Youtube file is perfectly fine.
I can’t understand what happened.

wow! our quality dropped down to like a single pixel! I thought it was bad before I sent it in but man is it bad now. Sigh I suppose there’s nothing to bedonw about it now.

Yeah, since Autodesk is limiting the regional awards, you only enter it in your “primary regional.” We decided to enter in Silicon Valley, as that’s where we saw the best animations last year. We hope to beat the best in order to ensure our chances at Nationals this year.

(I’m glad you liked ours last year, our animator slaved over it.)

All the animations had their quality degraded somewhat for streaming playback. I assume Autodesk will have the original high-resolution versions on DVD at the regional judging.

Did you render your original .MOV at 720 x 480 resolution in DV-NTSC format? It looks like 320 x 240. And the file size of your original is only 7.5Mb vs. 50-200Mb for most of the other animations.

P.S. Very creative idea & animation. I’m glad we’re not competing in your Regional!

I’m like a kid in a candy store with all of these animations. They are wonderful.
Congratulations to all the teams.

can anyone answer this question. In the original rules that they came out with this year they said that at nationals they will have judges pick five animations that they thought were good then have every team vote on one of the five.
Are the professional judges at Atlanta still going to look through every AVA entry or are they now only going to look at the reigional winners?

The judges will pick the top 5 from the entire group of submissions. So you can still be picked even if you don’t win a Regional AVA.

After the top 5 are selected (approx. 2 weeks before the Championship in Atlanta) voting wil be open. ALL FIRST Robotics students can vote, but they must be registered on FIRSTbase. Then the winner is announced in Atlanta!

I’m really excited about our animation. Our competition is next weekend, so we will see how that will turn out. Has anyone seen our animation? I’m curious on feedback if anyone liked it.

Did GI and bump reflections oO
It took some time to render I think =p
You should get a 35 technical =)

By far one of the best animations I viewed…Congratulations , that was a good job =)
If you get top 5 i will vote for you surely ^^

Hey, thanks. Its nice to see what other people have to think about our animation. It took us about a week to model everything, then 72 hours to render. It was FUN!!! GI and lots of other fun stuff… To bad were seniors though, its kinda hard to pass this stuff onto people when we had to teach ourselves the software. We have had no direction in the past. well, thanks for the compliment. I saw a few other ones but haven’t had a chance to look at alot of animations. I cant wait to see our competition.

Anyone know what the number is when ya click on the text of an animation instead of the link? Discovered it by accident heh.

Very Cool! Thanks for the post.
