Hello! I was wondering about the effectiveness of localization sensors, specifically magnetometers (I’m just curious, and we’re not actually considering using them. We’re probably using a gyro instead). I can’t think of any sensor (camera excluded) that has the potential to make autonomous easier. I am aware that magnetometers do not actually point north, but towards the prevailing magnetic field, which is where the problems start. (Hopefully not, but probably) gigantic potential problems. First of all, the sensor would have to be read before the beginning of the round (to get a baseline “forward” direction). Second, and possibly the biggest, is the sensitivity. Just about everything has a magnetic field associated with it, especially CIM motors. Does anyone know if this poses much of a problem? Thanks!
