At what point will teams know what defenses are going to be placed on the opposing teams outer works? Before or after the robots have already been put on the field? If after, can we still use the Smart Dashboard to communicate with the robot before the autonomous period starts?
I’ve seen a few robots having an autonomous algorithm that goes through the low bar and scores a ball in the low goal, but our robot is too tall to go under the low bar. As that is the only persistent defense, and our major goal is to take a shot at the high goal, knowing what defense we will have to go through is crucial.
You will know what defenses your opponent’s selected before your match (selection happens 2 matches before, and you get the layout one match before. This is in 5.5.10 in the manual). There is nothing wrong with using the Smart Dashboard to communicate autonomous modes prior to a match either.
Quick reminder if my memory serves correctly (which at the end of build season my memory is worth about a potato) but you get to know the defenses after you are in q’ing up.
“Step 2 – Queued and no later than the start of the MATCH one (1) MATCH prior to their scheduled MATCH (i.e. “Queue #1”): ASAP & concurrently, the DC makes available to each ALLIANCE a map revealing the DEFENSES and locations”
