Only once. This is outlined in the scoring rules in section 3.1–once you’ve crossed, you don’t damage or get points for another section of Defenses.
Eric, you do not get points for or damage any additional defenses. Are you sure you cannot cross the same defense again?

I saw that. I would read the rules as a back-and-forth also not getting extra points.
