Autonomously losing points?

As I was watching the New York Tech Valley regional’s elims, I believe it was the first alliance had all three of the robots put up their auto. And I watched as like what felt like 60% of the balls hit each other and bounce out completely. I don’t think that specific match was consequential. But I’m curious if that is not only happening in other events, or if there’s anything the teams are doing to make sure that they don’t hit the other teams cargo in auto.

It has been a long standing practice in frc to just put a delay for x number of seconds at the beginning of auto under the assumption most of the actions taken by other bots are almost immediate. That is if you have the time available to just sit there in your auto routines.
