So others have been alerting members to the deadlines for awards. I want to remind teams that there is no excuse for failing to nominate a mentor for Woodie Flowers Award nor for nominating students for Dean’s List. Please be sure that outstanding members of your team are recognized for the work they do and the impression they have made in your life.
I nominate @Leap
I nominate @Connor_McBride
According to Robert’s Rules of Order, the motion requires a second. I second said motion. All in favor?
I’m now on the other side of the DL equation, and we started our talks yesterday. Since we (like many other teams) are back to pseudo-rookies, none of our eligible students have program experience. Certainly makes for a weird selection process. I’m very curious to see how many sophomores nominated this year get re-nominated in 2023.
Iirc, this doesn’t even need to be a mentor from your team, should you be in such a situation.
This is correct, in 2016 my old team nominated a “mentor-at-large” for Woodie Flowers, who won at San Diego. He owned a machine shop and for many years provided a wide range of assistance to 5 or 6 teams in the community, from making parts in his shop for teams that didn’t have precision machines of their own, helping teams get up and running when they got their own machines (setting up and calibrating the machines, teaching students how to make CAMs, the works), and frequently hiring students & alums to work in his shop during the summers. He was an amazing help to our team at various times over the years, but he wasn’t formally associated with our team any more than the other local teams he helped out.
