Howdy - we have lost the power cable to our Axis camera (the 206 model). Can someone that has their cable measure the diameter of the barrel jack with a pair of calipers?
I can’t seem to find a connector that will work on anything I can salvage, so I’ve resorted to ordering one, but I still don’t know the diameter.
It also didn’t make sense to buy the axis branded adapter when I’m just going to cut the power brick off and put the connector on our robot…
There’s one at Radio Shack that kind of fits…I don’t remember what the size is, but we have used it with the 206 and also with the new camera (1011?). If you can measure round stuff that small and get the numbers in mm, you should be able to figure it out.
Our 206 eventually died, the power connector on the camera came unsoldered from the circuit board. We decided it was worth $200 to buy a new camera that works reliably.
I can confirm that. We bought exactly that part last year and now have two camera power cables. The camera itself is easy enough to swap between practice and competition robots, but the no-connector 5 volt output on the Power Distribution takes entirely too much time and effort to deal with. Having a camera power plug on each 'bot is a real convenience.
As an electrical engineer, I pretty much pretend radio shack doesn’t exist. They’re overpriced, stock low-quality items, and what each store carries varies wildly. I typically just order from Digikey or Mouser (electronics component distributors).
A friend brought me a connector that fits, and its outer diameter measures 3.4mm and inner diameter measure 1.35mm.
I found a connector on Digikey (part number CP3-1003-ND), a 3.5mm outer diameter (I measured with calipers, there is lots more than 0.1mm worth of play on my camera) and it should work if anyone wants to order it from them instead of radioshack. It is half the price and I order from Digikey frequently anyway. You could also throw it on your Digikey voucher order if you were already ordering something else (we ordered a practice battery with our voucher - digikey p/n 522-1014-ND).
If you guys are going to go the Digikey route, you might want to try CP-2193-ND over the previous mentioned connector. It is essentially what one would cut from the Axis power supply - connector and pigtail (3.5mm OD x 1.35mm ID). Or CP-2197-ND is the bent version if you’re into that kind of thing.
