Backwards compatibility between RoboRIO and cRIO?

Hi,

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I searched and couldn’t find it.

I heard that the roboRIO will support a newer java version. does anyone know if FIRST or NI are planning on releasing an update for the cRIO which would allow it to run the same code?

I’m trying to understand if we need to pre-order another roboRIO, or if we can manage with a roboRIO + our 2 existing cRIOs.

There will not be an update for the cRIO to allow it to run Java SE. I’m sure if WPI had the resources, it would have been done already.

That being said, the libraries will be fairly similar, so you may be able to get away with using a cRIO for a practice robot with a very similar code base using the cRIO libraries. The major difference would be in the pneumatics.
