Question. What is a good… Idk like, belt or material to use for an elevator? I know there are the urethane belts at a 1/4in or what not, but im looking for some other ideas? Im not 100% sure where to go about making elevator belts or loaders whatever you want to call them. I have the intake pretty much figured out. Never can make the belts right or any way to hold and feed the balls into the shooter… Any ideas?
We made a video on our ‘storage’ prototype which worked really simple and really well. These are just pulleys and timing belts from vex. It’s all about compression. You could use it as a lift aswell.
Was considering timing belts as well. Urethane is too slippery. Latex is grippy but too stretchy.
Thank you for the video.
We used urethane belts the last two years and, while sticky and configurable, if you don’t make them perfectly they can break or slip off the pulleys from lateral loads. I’m excited to use timing belts this year to make everything simpler.
Wow… Never actually thought about using timing belts… that would make everything simpler! Thank you for the idea!
Yeah i was wanting to upgrade from them! I always had issues setting them or getting them to STAY PUT lol! Latex never had worked for me i couldnt ever figure it out. But im glad someone else feels the same about the urethane beltsn
Lot of good ideas to get ya started in here:
Definitely. The only issue you run into is getting the distance between the pulleys exact as possible. If you’re careful and precise, you can do it by hand. If you can get stuff machined, that is better. Makes sure the mounting holes for the hex shafts are exact and you get a great belt fit
Wow that also was very helpful! I have quite a few ideas now thanks! Always love watching the Bot In 3 Days guys
3946 used round urethane belts as a combination pickup and internal elevator on the rookie robot (2012; sponge rubber game pieces similar in size to 2022 CARGO). It sort of worked as a floor pickup, but worked quite well as an internal elevator and indexer.
