band members

i was just noticing that seems to be quite a few band members who visit these forums…

yep I am a band nerd. One thing intresting is all of the wierd things I find in my tuba like gloves, clothes, and other stuff.

Male flutes rock!

I played Trumpet in band a few years ago, now i play guitar and soon bass (GO LORA!!!) hehehe, im in a band and i play whatever they tell me to cause i can play all of the instruments and they may make me sing (HA!)

Andrew

I’ve been playing various instruments since 4th grade…and plan to continue up in college to. Heck, if it wasn’t for FIRST, I’d be majoring in music and not engineering!

I haven’t forgotten about getting the bass to you Andrew…just looking for a way to get it to you without breaking it  Tis a little more complicated than I thought!

~ lora
(who played clarinet, saxophone, trombone, flute, little guitar and bass - but more often had her band teacher hand her 4 parts that wern’t covered and she needed to play all at the same time) I was the only one with 2 stands to myself :stuck_out_tongue:

I wanted to join band in 6th grade but the LAME-O director said “Girls don’t play drums.” So I never joined. Instead I’ve hand some friends help me out on the piano, always wanted to play but never did now I play by ear because I can’t read music. I do know many people who are in band and choose to go to band comps over nats. Go fig! I know I would choose band.

you’re not serious… are you?

Unfortunatly yes I do. I don’t claim to know them sometimes.

Proud to be a drum major! I also agree completely with Ed. Male flutes do rock. Plus they’re great at picking up chics.

~Tom~, who plays/played flute, oboe, piano, fife, accordion (fun stuff, let me tell ya), and a few other instruments now and then.

So Tom, would you prefer to be called a band jock or band nerd?

I’m a nerd in many ways, particularly b/c of band. Thing is…I think I’m the only person who doesn’t play more than one instrument. I guess I could try the other reed instruments, but I’ve always played clarinet since 6th grade and am not about to switch now (I have my director and the guy I get lessons from convinced that I may just have talent…wow!). I do play piano, but not in band. Someone else already had the job of Sym. band piano person when I got in it last year. Oh well.

~Angela who plays clarinet and is able to recognize an on-coming train and move away from the danger quicker than anyone else in her section

I chose the NYC regionals over our St. Patrick’s Day Parade and 25% of my band grade.

good choice, even if it is very un-irish of you.

So? I’m not Irish.

i was assuming you were…

I could have given up 25% of my band grade to go to all of the KSC regionals for missing festival, but I chose not to do so. I only live two hours from KSC, so I just drove with Kristen (one of my team members and fellow MCHS clarinet person) up the morning after festival and watched the finals on Saturday. I couldn’t afford a D in band…my parents would have strangled me.

~Angela who rather liked the 99 she got in band that semester

Same thing happened to me at the VCU Richmond regional. The morning of finals I left at some ungodly early hour, drove down to Jamestown, played my oboe for half an hour, and was able to make it back in time to drive in the semi-finals at VCU. Not that I would speed or anything.

~Tom~, who had a strange feeling going around a corner so he slowed back down into the double digits before passing the cop.

Actually, McDonnell is Scottish. I am 1/24 Scottish. :stuck_out_tongue:

i see…well generally anything that starts with “Mc” is considered irish…why else do you think were called mick’s?

Hrmm…they way my high school band was run was extermely laid back. Polly part of the reason you will never see NQHS marching in any shows, or big parades, etc. Nope…we are the ghetto band of Massachusetts  We saunter down the street…not march  I didn’t have to worry about my band grade all 4 years I’ve done FIRST.
