Band Plugs

I’m going to take your valuable FIRST time to plug some good music, which I highly recommend playing to take your mind off of the greasyness and metallicness of FIRST. I also speak good.

Anyway…

Emo/Screamo/Post-hXc

I really don’t like this type of music, but Our Last Night is the exception that proves the rule. They’re pretty darn talented, especially considering they are all high school classmates of mine. Well, their screamer is a 6th grader. Makes it all the more impressive. These are five songs. They also have an album that features these songs plus two others–if you want one, contact me, and we’ll figure something out. They performed at the Worcester Palladium the other day–hopefully, they’ll be signed soon.

Just Plain Sick
I was pretty psyched to find Yngwie Malmsteen on PureVolume. For those of you who are unacquainted with his melodious name, Malmsteen is widely acclaimed as the fastest guitar player in the world. His slow stuff is sick, too. These are three songs that I am unfamiliar with, but they are very, very good, especially “Fire and Ice” and the acoustic solo.

Feel free to post back with any other band plugs, and what you think of these guys.

I’ve been digging A Perfect Circle’s latest album Emotive, lately. I’ve also been digging back in my CD collection and pulling some classics like The Wallflowers - Bringing Down the Horse, Eels - Beautiful Freak, and Ben Folds Five - Whatever and Ever Amen. Also, any time is a good time for some great jazz by Thelonious Monk.

I’m still plugging William Shatner’s latest, entitled “Has Been” because it rocks out hard. Ben Folds and Shatner are apparently friends (both appeared in Priceline commercials, Shatner helped Folds on his album, etc), and that led to this album. And, IMHO, it’s vastly improved over “The Transformed Man” (which came out in 196X, and is pretty much the source of his reputation when it comes to music).

If you find it (I believe iTunes has it for under $10), get it.

Right now I’m really into…
Slipknot - “Volume 3: The Subliminal Verses”
Kittie - “Spit”
Bauhaus - “Crackle”
The Used - “The Used”
