Bash at the Beach 2005 ??

Hey

After thoroughly searching I’ve found no reference to there being a Bash at the beach held this year. And I was just curious if anyone from the area/teams that run it could tell me if it is in fact taking place this year, and when the approximate time frame would be. I know it’s early but we’re just trying to plan our fall for when we get back to school. Thanks a lot.

Mechanical Engineering Student (Senior) (only one year left YIKES!)

Per the organizer, October 8, 2005 - see their website which will be updated as it gets closer.

Thre are two teams that normally host the bash at the beach. Team 236 (Techno Ticks) and Team 521 (Waterford, CT robotics team). They are both sponsored by Dominion Nuclear Connecticut who is the sponsor of the Bash at the Beach.

I have heard there are certain rules about who can drive robots at these events. Are there any restrictions such as maximum age that are not the same as the rules FIRST enforces in this area or is it just that a student must drive?

While not speaking from experience at that event, in every off season I’ve ever heard of, watched via Webcast or attended, same rules as FIRST. (generally graduating seniors are allowed to drive).

[except the IRI Mentor Driver round]

Yes it is October 8th. Generally time was from like 8am to about 5 or 6pm. From what I know there are no certain restrictions, but yea I would check the site. My team last year let rookie drivers drive our robot, like freshman who just joined the team an that was their first event…that was scary, but they never told us we couldnt. I would recommend going if you are interested it’s an awesome off-season competition an is loved by alot of people!!

Updated information can be found at www.batb.us - registration is now open. NEMO is grateful to the teams who are organizing this event to allow us to host a workshop at it. Looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones.

Same day as SAT’s

HAHA SAT’s who needs them…j/k j/k i was actually going to take mine on the 8th until i found out bash was on the 8th an i said heck no, i’m not missing bash! So i’m taking them november 5th. lol You cant miss bash, i agree with TPBM an go after SAT’s.

Bash is on my birthday this year!!!

…well, it’s my twin brother’s birthday too…we’ll both be there with team 549

I just got the news, although it was just alotta screaming and shrieking by Ashley and Scott, that 237, 181, and 1511 won over 228, 803, and 839.

Congrats to all.

We got DQ’d and they beat us.

I did not agree with many of the “referees” calls during the time I was there…when it came to our team, and others…

yea team 176 was with the cyber knights, that “knock over” was definently needed to be looked at again. Their arm was alil high up there an could have easily been tipped by anyone or anything. Our alliance did good, an i’m proud of them…congrats, we had soo much fun! But i will agree the judges did call some calls that were alil misjudging!

Congrats to 1511, 181, and 237, u guys did put a fight…i will admit that!

It’s hard getting “professionals” out of volunteers.
Most off season competitions are happy to get what they get.
It could be worse.
You could have no refs and no Bash at the Beach.

Bash at the Beach was a great event this year - except for the humidity. http://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/45.gif The thing that amazed me is our team’s ghetto-fab engineering to fix a shatteret sprocket on our arm. In the last qualifaction round we shattered a sprocket that holds our arm in place during autonomous. We didn’t have a replacement, so we Gorilla-glued the pieces back together, and then put a pipe clamp around that to hold the pieces in place. And it actually lasted for the rest of the competition. http://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/3.gif

Random BatB quote:
“Let’s hear it for safetttyyyy glassssesss!”

Yup, and they did a great job for what resources they had. Kudos Team 236, 521, and the whole B@B crew!

As far as the refs, we did tip 2 bots in one match. While not intentional, that threw the outcome off by a bit, and they had to call it. Totally understandable.

This should serve as a lesson: dont try to push 195!

Congrats 237, 1151, and 181!

Thank you all and thank you teams 1511 and 181, we all worked great with each other. Thank you teams 228, 803, and 839 for a great finals competition.

Also I would like to say thank you to all the volunteers that made this all possible, it was a great event.

… i have to agree that 195 puts together a very solid machine that is almost impossible to push.
