Basketballs while balancing

In the video, it shows a robot using a basketball to balance the bridge, while holding it in its arm. But in G14, it specifically prohibits using “…Basketballs to either aid or inhibit balancing of any bridge is not allowed.”

Any ideas?

I think in “aid” it would be underneath the ramp to hold up the robot to help balance, that is what our team thinks.

I would interpret that as the Bridge is not allowed to rest on the ball (as an aid to balancing, or inhibiting, depending on the position). But, this is vague, and the game animation has been known (on several occasions) to be incorrect or misleading…there will likely be an update on the meaning and practice of this rule.

Never use the video to define any rules. Always use the Competition Manual.

Yup.

If you are referring to 2:25 of this video, then I think the arm is moving because it’s free to pivot.

Plus

[G14]
Strategies that use Basketballs to either aid or inhibit balancing of any Bridge are not allowed.
Violation: Technical-Foul, and counting or discounting the affected Bridge as balanced, as appropriate.

It’s likely to mean jamming it under to hold it up or down. A 300g ball wouldn’t be able to affect the center of gravity of a 120+ LB robot any significant distance

That’s the exact rule that is being discussed; the OP even quoted it in their post. Simply re-posting without additional comments/interpretations won’t help
