Battery Survey

For my IB Design class, I’m creating a battery charging cart for my team. I need some consumer data from other FRC teams to meet requirements presented by my teacher and IB. Please, take the survey below. Thanks!

We cant access. Your probably using your schools google account. They are horrible. We deal with the same stuff. You may want to recreate it using your personal google account so people without your schools domain can take it.

This is what is says.

“How many batteries do you have right now?”
Too many, some dating all the way back to the founding of the team in 2002. I put down my guess of how many are still working well enough to practice on.

(Offtopic, What do teams do with old batteries? I’m thinking I’ll try to take a bunch to an auto parts shop and see if I can get a core charge refund [California]?)

We take our old batteries to a local electronic waste recycler that takes lead-acid batteries (and most other e-waste) for free. (Those in the DC area, see https://www.eassetsolutions.com.) All they ask is that the terminals be taped over so that they don’t run the risk of shorting to other metal in the vicinity, although we also make sure that the batteries are discharged before we take them for disposal.

If the auto shop route doesn’t work out, you might try searching for an e-waste recycler near you at https://sustainableelectronics.org/recyclers.

We just got $7 a piece at a recycling center for 10 old batteries.

As with IndySam, we get money for recycled batteries. Most any metal recycler takes them.

I’m going to have to look into this dollars for used robot batteries scheme. Thanks!

I know “Batteries Plus” locations accept batteries for recycle at no charge and have stores nationwide. They’re also a good source to get decent quality replacement batteries (you also get 10% off if you order online and pick up at a store).
